Our Schedule of Classes is as Follows:
Please Note: All Weekends are Sat. 10-5 pm, and Sunday 9-5 pm.
February 23-24
Saturday, Feb. 23rd:
10 am - Noon -- Yoga Session @ Wiggins Park Beach (Parking Lot 4). Please bring a mat, towel, plenty of agua, sunscreen, lunch. Special advanced yoga demonstration to follow.
Noon-1 pm -- Lunch and Introductions on the beach @ the Picnic tables.
1:30-5 pm (@ Wellness North) -- Introduction to our Training, Yoga code of ethics, Background of Yoga and Hatha Yoga, Introduction to leading a Yoga class. (And yes, we will have breaks!)
Sunday, February 24th (@ Wellness N.)
9-Noon: Yoga Intensive that will include: An asana session, breathwork, meditation, partner yoga and assists, Thai Yoga Massage, deep relaxation, and meditation.
Noon - 1pm : Lunch & Free Play.
1 -3 pm : Yoga Philosophy & Lifestyle Lecture & Discussion : Why We Do the Things We Do.
3-5 pm Yoga Anatomy and Physiology -- Another essential teaching tool, and for self-understanding. We will watch part of Paul Grilley's Anatomy for Yoga.
Interim Reading: Yoga: Mastering the Basics, + readings from our course materials (to be announced). Everyone is asked to write a short essay (2-5 pages) on what they learned or were inspired by from our first sessions and from the readings. 2nd Weekend: March 29-30
Saturday, March 29 :
10- 1 pm : Same as first week -- meet @ Wiggins, be prepared for a yoga session, and bring your own lunch (apples for the teacher are accepted, provided they're organic).
1:30-3 pm -- We will watch parts of the film, "Yoga Unveiled." Discussion to follow.
3-5 pm -- Teaching Methodology, and how to effectively assist and adjust people in yoga poses.
Sunday, March 30th:
9am-noon : Yoga Intensive. This will include: An asana session, breathwork, meditation, partner yoga and assists, Thai Yoga Massage, deep relaxation, and meditation. (Note: Though this Yoga Intensive will happen on Sunday morning each weekend session, it will definitely not be the same each time.)
Noon-1 pm : Lunch & Recess.
1-3 pm : Introduction to the History of Yoga and India (partly continued from our discussion of Yoga Unveiled).
3-5 pm : Yoga Assisting and Adjusting, plus Partner and Acro-Yoga.
In the Interim: Please read Desikachar's "The Heart of Yoga," plus the assigned readings (to be announced.) Please email a short essay (2-5 pages) on our sessions and the readings.

3rd Weekend: April 26-27
Saturday, April 26 :
10-1 pm : Our regular meeting at Wiggins Park for yoga, lunch, and discussion.
1:30-3:15 pm : Watch and discuss film : Origins of Yoga: Quest for the Spiritual.
3:30-5 pm : Arm balance and Inversion workshop, learning how to assist and adjust in these poses, contraindications, anatomical considerations, etc.
Sunday, April 27th
9-Noon : Our regular Yoga Intensive. This will include: An asana session, breathwork, meditation, partner yoga and assists, Thai Yoga Massage, deep relaxation, and meditation.
1- 3 pm : Lecture & Discussion: "How to Teach the Spiritual Dimension of Yoga in a Yoga session (if you so choose)."
3-5 pm : Arm Balance and Inversion workshop, continued.

1:30 - 3: 15 Film: "The Soul of India" and Discussion.
3:30 - 5 pm : Teaching Balance Poses in Class : "Finding the Balance Between Too Much and Too Little."
Sunday, May 25th
9-Noon -- Our regular Sunday Intensive.
1 pm-3 pm -- Lecture: "Why It's Important to Know Sanskrit : An Introduction to Sanskrit, Mantras, Yoga songs and music, and Yoga Texts."
3-5 pm : Continuation of the workshop on Balance from the previous day.
Interim reading: Nicolai Bachman's "The Language of Yoga" plus selected assigned readings. Send short essay by email.
5th weekend, June 28-29th
Saturday, June 28th :
10-1 pm : Yoga & grub @ Wiggins .
1:30 - 3:15 : Film: "Short-cut to Nirvana," and Discussion.
3:30 - 5 pm : The Bandhas (Yoga Locks) and how to teach them. Plus: Ujjaiyi Breath (Victory Breath).
Sunday, June 29th :
9-Noon : Our regularly-scheduled Sunday Yoga Intensive.
1-3 pm : Pranayama (Breathwork) Workshop, with training in Breath of Fire (Kapalabhati, Bhastrika), Nadi Shodhana, Ujjaiyi, and the Full Yogic Breath.
3-5 pm : Yoga Session with special emphasis on the Bandhas and pranayama.
In the Interim : Read Yogananda's "Autobiography of a Yogi," plus selected readings. Write short essay on readings and our class sessions.

1:30-3:15 pm : Watch another section of "Anatomy for Yoga" and Discuss.
3:30 - 5 pm : Yoga Session with Emphasis on Standing Poses (particularly Triangle Series and Warrior Series).
Sunday, July 27th :
9-Noon : Our Regular Sunday Yoga Intensive .
1-3 pm : Lecture & Discussion of the Higher Limbs of Yoga : Concentration, Meditation, Samadhi.
3-5 pm : Continuation of Previous day's workshop on Standing Poses, ending with longer deep relaxation and meditation.

1:30-3:15 pm : Film "Ashtanga Yoga: Advanced Series" and Discussion.
3:30-5 pm : Ashtanga Primary series session (a taste of this style of Yoga.)
Sunday, August 31st :
9-Noon : Our Regular Yoga Intensive.
1-3 pm : Lecture & Discussion : Yoga Paths & Yoga Styles.
3-5 pm : Introduction to Ashtanga Yoga Second Series, concluding with longer Shavasana and meditation.

3:30-5 pm : Yoga Dancing to Free Body, Mind, and Spirit -- An introduction.
Sunday, September 28th :
9-Noon : Our regular Yoga Intensive.
1-3 pm : Lecture & Discussion: "What Yoga is Like in India, and How it Differs from Here in the West."
3-5 pm: The Yoga of Dance (continued).
In the Interim, please read the assigned readings, and write a brief essay on what you read. Please also write a review of the program thus far.
Note: Starting this next weekend, we will be focusing on teaching each other, and bringing what we have learned out into the larger community.
9th Weekend, October 25th-26th :
Saturday, October 25th :
10-1 pm : Yoga @ Wiggins Park.
1:30-3:15 : Lecture and discussion on Teaching Methodology/Preparation for next segment.
3:30-5 pm : Teaching our fellow yogis and yoginis in groups of three.
Sunday, October 26th :
9-Noon : Sunday Yoga Intensive.
1-3 pm : Teaching each other again in groups of three.
3-5 pm : Review of what we learned from our teaching.
In the interim: Please volunteer your time at least once a week to teach yoga somewhere in your community, preferably to the underprivileged, elderly, or a segment of the population that would otherwise not know about yoga. Prior to the next session, write a brief essay (3-5 pages) about your experience.

10th Weekend, November 29-30th
Saturday, November 29th :
10- 1pm : Yoga and Lunch @ Wiggins.
1:30 - 5 pm : Each student will teach a 20-minute yoga segment, with 5-10 minutes of constructive critique by your peers. (We will continue the following day.)
[Note: Those who are not training to be a teacher can still choose to teach a segment, or they can just participate.]
Sunday, November 30th :
9-Noon : Yoga Intensive.
1-5 pm : Continuation of 20-minute teaching segments.
In the Interim: Please read assigned selections, and write a brief essay on what you read. Also, please write an essay in which you critique your own performance of the weekend, discussing what you learned and would do differently (if anything) in the future. And you of course can continue your volunteer work, and/or begin teaching one group or private yoga session per week.
11th Weekend, December 27-28th :
Saturday, December 27th:
10-1 pm: Yoga and Lunch at Wiggins.
1:30 - 3:15 pm : Lecture and Discussion on how we can live well and prosper teaching Yoga, changing ourselves and the world.
Sunday, December 28th :
9-Noon : Yoga Intensive.
1-3 pm : Continuation of previous day's discussion of making a living teaching Yoga.
3-5 pm : Special workshop on teaching yoga to those with special needs, injuries, and how to use Yoga as preventative medicine.
In the Interim: Via email, I will send you a test review that you will study for the final weekend session.
Final Weekend, January 24-25th :
Saturday, January 24th :
10-1 pm : Yoga & Fiesta @ Wiggins .
1:30-3:15 : Yoga written test .
3:30 - 5 pm : More fun with partner and acro-yoga, plus Thai Yoga massage.
Sunday, January 25th
9-Noon : Sunday Yoga Intensive.
1-3 pm : I'll hand back the tests and we'll go over them.
3-5 pm : Review of course & special closing ceremony during which you will receive your 200-hour certificate of completion (assuming you passed the test : ) )
